Our management mentoring and development consultancy is unique as it takes a specific approach to identifying and fulfilling management development needs in a shoulder-to-shoulder implementation that benefits both the organization and its managers. A successful engagement starts with listening to the client’s needs and priorities. Dr. Sekou Siby is an experienced former nonprofit CEO who can assist and counsel emerging leaders in their career growth. Because strategy execution requires cross-functional collaboration, our offering can assist in implementing and developing action plans related to strategic plans, human resource development, culture plan execution, effective business operation, and budgeting. The management mentoring programs aim to enhance nonprofit leaders’ managerial skills by giving them access to the functional expertise of a former CEO with 20 years of practical nonprofit management experience and the academic knowledge of a PhD in Business Administration.
There is a clear difference between Dr. Sekou Siby’s offering and what others offer to nonprofit organizations. We are not just providing an appraisal of an organization’s strategy, culture, values, or leadership, and we are not simply recommending critical changes that should be made. We will not write a report, hand it over to the organization, and walk away! We are actually going to guide the organization through the process, work with the leadership, and help implement their projects and priorities.
Dr. Siby’s management mentoring and support consultancy considers the needs of newly appointed managers and those with substantial experience but new to their function. The shoulder-to-shoulder mentoring support is action-oriented, individual-focused, and delivered to individual leaders. While organizational imperatives are relevant, the mentoring and leadership support interventions are for the individual leader and whoever is recommended by him/her/them.
At SIBS Consulting Services, we envision a thriving nonprofit sector where emerging leaders of Color are empowered to realize their full potential. By providing personalized, shoulder-to-shoulder mentoring and actionable support, we aim to cultivate a community of innovative, collaborative, and effective nonprofit leaders who drive meaningful change and foster inclusive organizational cultures. Our commitment to practical implementation and strategic execution paves the way for sustainable success, ensuring that every organization we partner with can achieve its mission and amplify its impact.
SIBS Consulting Services is dedicated to supporting managers and emerging leaders of Color in the nonprofit sector by providing tailored mentoring and development. Through collaborative engagement and practical implementation, we help organizations enhance their strategic execution, strengthen their managerial skills, and foster inclusive cultures, ensuring that every leader has the tools and support needed to drive impactful change.
Dr. Sekou Siby is the Principal and CEO of SIBS Consulting Services LLC, a consulting firm whose objective is to mentor leaders on project implementation. We also provide individualized training that focuses on closing the knowledge and skills gap of emerging leaders and busy Executive Directors from people of Color and immigrant communities.
In September 2001, I made a simple decision that saved my life. I was a cook at the Windows on the World restaurant, and my colleague Moises Rivas asked me to switch shifts with him. I agreed, and Moises took the morning shift. Along with 72 of our friends working in the restaurant that day, Moises perished when a plane struck the 92nd floor of the North Tower.
Along with others who struggled with grief and financial hardship, I volunteered at a relief center that was formed by HERE Local 100 to support displaced restaurant workers. From this effort — and the ashes of the magnificent Windows on the World restaurant destroyed, and all the lives lost — Restaurant Opportunities Center (ROC) was eventually born. In 2008, the team expanded into chapters in cities nationwide and grew into a national organization. I left ROC after 22 years of service. As a community organizer and ROC CEO, I help win more than $14 million in back wages from national chains for workers. I also help train nearly 10,000 low-paid workers, helping graduates advance to higher-paying jobs as exemplary dining wait staff, bartenders, and managers. And during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, we gave more than $1 million in relief assistance to over 3,000 out-of-work restaurant staffers.
As a nonprofit leader, I developed in-depth knowledge of the field, core programs, operations, and business plans to ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, and systems improvement.
